To make a long story short, as of June 24th 2019, if your state board accepts our courses based on our ASWB approval alone, Social Work Today CE’s courses will not be acceptable until Social Work Today’s publisher Great Valley obtains approved CE provider status from ASWB. We do not have a date available for that yet, but we expect it to be in Fall 2019.
If your state board accepts courses from APA approved providers, your course completions through Social Work Today CE will still be acceptable.
These states currently will not accept courses from Social Work Today CE:
- North Carolina
- North Dakota
- South Dakota
If your state is not on this list, your courses on Social Work Today CE will still be accepted. If your state is on this list and you need to complete your CE hours soon, please contact our support team.
The Full Story
Social Work Today CE is a joint project of Social Work Today magazine and CE Learning Systems. CELS is an approved CE provider with ASWB and other national and state boards. SWT identifies learning objectives and exam questions to test readers’ knowledge of the articles in the magazine. CELS reviews and revises those objectives and questions to ensure they meet the educational standards established by ASWB.
This arrangement is commonly termed cosponsorship. Social Work Today’s readers have benefitted from this arrangement for over decade, but recently ASWB has determined that cosponsorship is no longer acceptable unless both organizations are approved through ASWB. We (CELS) are therefore required to remove ASWB approval status from all courses on Social Work Today CE.
What Happens Next?
We will notify all Social Work Today CE members by email when Social Work Today CE’s courses will be available for ASWB again.
In the meantime, CE Learning Systems is also approved byAPA and many state social work boards will also accept coursework from APA-approved providers, this change may not affect you. If your state is not in the list above, your courses on Social Work Today CE are still acceptable.
If you have a course credit package your credits will not expire. You can simply come back in the fall and complete courses then.
